Dear Parents,

On Monday, January 23, 2012, Holden School will begin a week long celebration for Chinese New Year.  The week will include your child in various activities relating to the Chinese New Year.  The week will end on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 with a family celebration to be held at Holden School starting at 5:00 pm and ending at 6:00pm. We hope to see many of our parents here for the closing festivities!

Below is a schedule of planned activities for the week:

Monday, Jan. 23      
  Daily proverb/phrase will be read aloud each morning-each  classroom will discuss its meaning or significance   
  Coloring contest begins for primary grades  
  Couplet/scroll writing for intermediate and upper students begins  
  Chinese lantern displayed in each classroom  
Tuesday, Jan, 24- Thursday, Jan. 26  
  Various games and craft activities such as origami, tangram art, and  lantern making are planned throughout the week .  
Tuesday, Jan. 31  
  In school culminating activities/Lion Dance and Lantern Parade
Students may wear a red shirt/top to school on this day for the cost of  50 cents.  Proceeds will benefit the Bilingual Committee.
 
TUESDAY EVENING PARENT’S NIGHT  
  Parents’ Night in the auditorium from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
(includes:
Lion Dance and Lantern Parade,
reading of student written couplets and scrolls,
piano compositions performed by students,
performance of the Mongolian Folk Dance,
student Chinese crafts/artwork displayed on first floor for parent viewing, and refreshments served.)

The Charles N. Holden School is an elementary Chicago Public School, located in the Bridgeport community Boundaries:
    North to the Chicago River
    East to Halsted
    South to 32nd St. - even #'s
    West to Chicago River

Holden offers a pre-school through eighth grade curriculum and is part of the "Magnet Cluster Program" with emphases on the visual arts and technology.

Although Holden school is a neighborhood school that services students in its attendance areas, students from other neighborhoods may enroll through the Magnet Cluster Program. Applications are available every year (in the main office and online) for enrollment the following school year, and if space is available at that particular grade level, students are accepted.
